MG TD TF 1500 - TD MK II Fuel supply lines

In the effort to build my fast road car using MK II components (no I'm not trying to build a bogus car) does any one here have a legitimate MK II That can show me the proper routing of the second fuel line from the tank to the fuel pumps? In particular how, where and what clips are used to secure the lines to the frame? What it looks like at the tank, etc?

Thanks

Hello Bill
You might reach out to t lange, (replace at with @, dot with . and no spaces) tlange at acadia dot net

Hi Bill,

I don't have a complete set of photos, but I'll share what I have. First is the configuration of the two fittings at the tank (a "before" photo during the Great Dismantling).

J Barry

Second is the fuel pump end.

J Barry

Last shows the lines separating around the cross bar. My recollection is that they come back close together for the remaining passage to the tank. We re-used all of the original clips.

Thanks Hiram I will need to talk with Tom soon to order the ARP hardware, roadster gaskets and thermostat housing in preparation for my engine build.

Jim thanks for the pictures. Do you still own this car? Do the lines both use the same retention clips on the frame? are the clips siamesed? I will save these pics and see if I can enlarge them to try to draw out more detail. If you still own the car, would you be willing to note the locations of each of the clips on the second line and perhaps take a few more pics and email them to me at your convienence?

Toms been a great help.
I've bought the APR hardware as well as core plugs from Tom as well.
I have several pictures of TD/C fuel line routing from fuel pumps to just below the front frame to tub stiffeners and firewall area Toms sent me in past. I would be glad to forward them to you- with his permission of course.

Bill,

I still own the car (of course!), but am geographically separated. I'll be having another go over Thanksgiving and if you still need information at that time I'll be happy to provide. My feeble recollection is that the clips are mostly the single clips paired up in an over-under configuration except for the cross-bar area. The clip on the firewall in photo 2 is a double; I'm not sure if there are any more of those.

Bill, AKD 834, Section R, MKII Supplement, says:"Adapter, tank (1), Part #99612; Petrol Pipe (tank to pump, (1), Part #135379; Clip (pipe to frame) (5), Part #95100;Clip (pipe to bulkhead),(1), Part #50232. So, 5 clips along the frame and 1 on the firewall. Bud
Bud Krueger

AKD 834, Section C, shows: Car fastener clip (5/16")- pipe to sidemember, (6), Part #95100. These are the parts for a standard TD. That would mean that a MKII would use 11 of the 95100 clips. Bud
Bud Krueger

thanks Bud for your research. I'm wondering whether the factory jammed two clips in one hole facing each other or if there are 5-6 extra hole placements in the side rails? If any one within say an hours drive of Sacramento has a MK II I sure would like to come look at it...

Cheers

Why does the MK2 have two fuel pumps? Surely a single pump will deliver more than enough fuel. The TF 1500 which gives out more HP than a MK2 only uses one.

Hugh - the prototype Mark II was a race car with modifications requested by Dick Jacobs, and I would not be surprised to find that the second pump was there just in case the first failed. Both the Mark II and TF use similar 1.5" carbs (the 1500 a HP pump, so it really isn't about fuel delivery. I worked on a Mark II a few weeks ago where the owner reported that one fuel pump died about 8,000 miles ago, and he never got around to replacing it. Ran just fine!

Bill - if you want me to I can photograph one of my unrestored Mark II's tomorrow, from tank to fuel pump. Let me know.

Tom,
I would also appreciate receiving those pictures.

They will help me correct the work which had been done previously. The fuel lines on my car are the originals, which were painted black, and may well have been pushed out of the correct paths when the car was put back together.

Thanks very much,

A second photo showing fuel lines running on each side of the horn. There are holes in the bulkhead which at present are not being used.

Charlie Adams

Barry and Tom When you are able I am still in need of pics. Just as a reminder. I thought there would be more MK II owners on Here that would reply...

Thanks

Some pics of mine for the effort, Bill. Starting at the rear. One fitting was purposely longer than the other on my tank. Second set of frame holes for line were present though the line was absent when vehicle came to me.

Dan Craig

Thanks Dan That helps a lot. When you put in the second line did you just make it yourself? Do you remember how much material you needed? Moss doesn't show a line for the extra MK II pump.
W. A. Chasser Jr

I don't Bill. Think I measured the standard line, then cut a piece about a foot longer. Shaped it and then added the final fitting after I was satisfied with the rest of the install. I'll post some under bonnet pics when I can round them up.
Dan Craig

Thanks again Dan. I will go to the hardware store tomorrow and get the tubing. I need to finish plumbing the brakes and fuel lines as I finally laid down the clear coats on my tub and will be installing it on the chassis next week. It's been a tough several months with having to do timber repairs but things are finally beginning to move in the right direction.
W. A. Chasser Jr

Couple more for you, Bill. Shot this one during teardown since barely visible when assembled.

Dan Craig

Final underhood - thought I had a better shot.

Dan Craig

Dan, Thank you for the additional pics.

Re the clip at the cowl support and on the cowl below the pumps; Are there Three total with two on the cowl? are these snap in clips also? Is there a source for these double sided clips?

I can't believe I'm having issues sourcing out 5/16th copper line locally. I was going to re use my compression nuts on a new fabricated line. Moss doesn't have a length that is suitable for the MK II pump (according to the catalog). I don't now if there would be sufficient length in their std. line kit to work.

any suggestions?

Cheers

Hi, I recently helped purchase an unrestored Mk2 for a friend - I took a few photos. He hasn't started the strip down yet so may be able to get more photos. He always takes lots when he dismantles a car anyway. I have attached a photo of the fuel pump area

DM Gibson

Bill; I know of no source on the double hump clips - I made a little jig and fabricated my own.I added a thin piece of rubber cut to the same size to help with chafing and noise. Attaches with a single machine screw and nut in the middle. Two on the cowl and one hiding on the cowl support. Copper line can be sourced from HVAC supply stores, big box stores or some auto parts stores still have it.
Dan Craig

Thanks Dan for the additional info. I've hit the box stores and they aren't helpful. Will try an AC shop for the tubing. Do you sweat solder the ferrules in place or is the compression sufficient to prevent leaking. I will get a couple pieces of bar stock and press out a few clips. One more question. Can you give me the mounting hole locations for the second pump referenced off the face and lower corner of the tool box. Thanks in advance...

Cheers

I just want to say a Big Thank You to all who took the time to respond to this. Your pictures and information were a great resource for me. The fuel lines are now in place and the pumps installed. I may chose to pull the Moss line back out and re do it as I don't like haw it looks. I ended up buying a 50' roll of tubing from a refrigeration supply house locally so I have plenty of tubing to work with. I've only to make the clamps for the tubing stays on the firewall

I wish I could figure out how to load pics on here. I'm not savvy enough to know how to format the pics to fit. My IPhone resolution is apparently to much for the site to handle. Though I transfer them on my PC I still can't figure out how to downsize. I have windows * and still trying to get around on it.

Cheers

Bill I use Adobe Photoshop, very easy to shrink the pics.
