Stuart: For a philistine like me, this is a really interesting project. Do you have more pictures of this? Dave |

Stuart Can you supply more details on the Celica transmission swap? Cheers, Bob |

Actually, mabey when it gets lowered to it's final ride height, it will look better with those wheels,,,,seems high in the last picture, it would solve the problem of the old steel wheels getting out of round, and having to straighten them,,, but from the Superlite web site, the price is high.... Sorry for length of this, but this is a full description of modifications to running gear. Engine The 1950 MG TD engine will not be restored to factory but instead will be under going extensive modifications to bring it up to date with modern road conditions and environments. The revisions to the engine include a new crank shaft, fast road cam shaft, pistons .060in oversize, con rods re-sized all new bearings and balanced, oil pump machined and fitted with new gears and drive shafts, modern type front crankshaft seal & (350 Chev) rear main seal have been fitted to eliminate the ubiquitous engine oil leaks. The cylinder head has been machined and fitted with new valve guides, stainless valves and seats to run unleaded fuel, compression ratio has been set at 8 to1 and we will be fitting a Magnuson supercharger to this engine. which we believe will double the horsepower rating of this engine and make it a more acceptable road machine Front End The front suspension has been retro fitted with MGB lower control arms, V8 Lower control arm Bushes, MGB slotted & dimpled disc rotors and MGB Disc brake calipers, overhauled with new pistons & overhaul kits and fitted with a VH44 power Brake Booster. We decided to keep the Girling front Shock Absorbers and have them reconditioned, we then added MGB front stub axles with new Kingpins & bushes. At this time we also decided to fit an MGB front sway bar to improve handling. Transmission After some consideration it was decided to fit a Dellow Automotive 5 speed Celica adapter kit and 5 speed Celica gearbox and we had to fit a modified New Tail shaft to suit and replace cross-member. The differential was then modified with a new crown wheel and pinion 4.55 to 1 to lower the engine revs and give a higher top speed. Included in this overhaul all bearings including axle bearings have been also been replaced Rear Axle The old rear knee action shock absorbers have been replaced with new mounting brackets and new telescopic gas shock absorbers. The rear brake cylinders were then fitted with stainless sleeves new hydraulic kits and new brake linings all new steel brake pipes tube nuts and hydraulic hoses |

A bit more on fitting the Celica Gearbox with Dellow adaptor bell housing With the Dellow adapter bell housing the gear stick ends up under the dash. You have to cut the gear shift & extend it back towards the hand brake lever to aprox 75mm from lever (not the push button)weld a piece of steel in to extend the lever You also have to cut the cross member & position a new cross member. eg. a 40X40 X 2.6 RHS & welded in crush tubes where the mounting bolts are this is positioned aprox 40mm back from the original cross member - weld this down low on the chassis on the chassis flange. http://www.dellowauto.com.au/main.html Although I have a celica box, I haven't as yet made the decision to go that path due to the need to modify the chassis. Cheers Stuart |

I guess if he keeps all the old bits, it will not be long before he has two TD's? (LOL) Cheers, Matthew. |
