MG TD TF 1500 - td on ebay
A friend saw this car on Ebay and is wondering about buying it. What are your opinions on it. 32073238981 Thanks Steve |

Sure you have the # right? Did not show up for me. |

IMHO, it seems like the seller is trying to be as honist as possible! I believe the intake manifild is relativly rare??,,,With the two fuel pumps, might it be a MK-II ?? SPW |

Regarding this TD on ebay - In the third to last photo - what is the device mounted on the firewall - to the rear of the distributor? Rick |

It is refreshing to see an accountable honest description I. An eBay listing. Seller does not know about MGs (conversion to 12v, floor pan missing) I would imagine the wood in the tub is shot. |

OK ...that one! Looked at it a while back. Steve , IMHO: If your friend has had some experance with a "T" series before this may be a good one to consider. If not this is going to be a hard undertaking for someone with no knowledge of one of these cars to take on depending on their skill level for restration. Not for the faint of heart or first timmer would be my opnioun. The listing seems very honest (with a lot of "maybes" and "?'s"). I did notice something that has been added since I looked at it last: "no pre-inspections" Again, maybe just me, but IMHO that would be somewhat of a red flag for me, dependent on how high the bidding goes. Right now, not a lot of money (think worse case / parting out & recoupe investment) but if it get's too much higher I would be concerned about what the "bottom" of this one looks like. I have purchased a few cars sight unseen from ebay auction, but only one that I did not have an understanding that I would back out of the deal if not "as advertized" on inspection and that was only after after I had some fairly lenghtly phone conversations with the seller and believed them to be honest. (They were...actually that one arrived in better shape than I had expected.) That's my 2 cents. |

Rick, It looks like there is a black cylinder under it,, could it be some sort of a "high output" period coil? Seeing that the air blower is where the coil should be??? |
STEVE WINCZE |
I figured that as an attempt at a heater (or foot cooler?) Looks simular to the old squirle cage in my Austin ...maybe the source of the fire! |
David Sheward |
Methinks this is one I would stay away from. No pre inspection?? Looking at all the work to be done you would spend an easy 20 grand getting this thing back to normal stock. Engine would be a pig in a poke. The guy sounds like a scammer to me. Kinda hardnosed with all his conditions. |
Tom Maine (TD8105) |
Steve You might be right about that being a coil. I've attached a picture for the benefit of all. Rick |

I think it is a flux capacitor. To bad too. You'd have to get it running, then put a five speed in it, change the rear axle ratio, steal plutonium from the Libyans and then get it up to 88 miles an hour to test it out. |
D. Sander |
Explain to me a "flux capacitor" I have never heard that term before. Cheers, Bob |

Bob - It's from the "Back to the Future" movies. John |

Not a Mark II, but a November, 1950 TD. Tom |

I guess I don't understand "back to the future" remember I am from an earlier generation. Born in 1926. Cheers, Bob |

TL Were you able to figure out the plate number? I could not make it out. KPH flat speedo. He says this is probably not original. Thoughts on this? I assume british cars and some others for countries with kilometer system may have had these? With the exception of the gauges, I don't see a lot that you could not buy to bring this one back. If it sells below $5,000 it could be worth redoing. but a lot of $$$ to to it. |
Bruce Cunha |
Bob, Maybe this link will help: http://backtothefuture.wikia.com/wiki/Flux_capacitor |

Bruce - TD4680. It is a LHD car for the US, so the instruments would not be in KPH. I don't know - this is a car with such a checkered past that I wouldn't trust anything to be right. Anything CAN be brought back to life, but I think good bones are the beginning. This one has led too hard a life, and too much has been and will be needed. Tom |

Thanks Gene Bob |

So the obvious questions are : Flux capacitor avlb in both "neg/poss" ground versions? Same model for XPAG as XPEG? Good idea to install new crank first? Will it be compatable with NOS set-up? |
David Sheward |
Thanks Tom I did not catch the number. That is only a few hundred away from mine. I am betting the fire was in the dash and ruined the gauges. Any thoughts of what these gauges are out of? |
Bruce Cunha |
Those gauges could have been out of in exported car to maybe SA or somewhere, may not be original to the car itself. |
Tom Maine (TD8105) |
I have a set of KPH instruments from a TD somewhere; they were installed in EX cars going to KPH countries. Tom |

It looks like a Turbo Entabulator, to me. For more info, e-mail me. Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué. |
