MG TD TF 1500 - TD or TF Head ??
I was checking the plugs in my 54TF after the first 100 miles or so and noticed that the first 2 or 3 threads on the plug were black with soot. I am running NGK BP5ES plugs (3/4"). It seems to me that for this to happen the plugs must extend into the cylinder. I am wondering if I have a TD head from before they switched from 1/2" to 3/4" plugs. I remember reading somewhere that you can tell required plug length from the head casting number. My head has a cast number of 168425. I am not 100% sure of the '1' but the 6842 is very clear and is part of the casting. The '5' appears to be hand stamped. The number is located on the front right side of the head. Can anyone in TD land tell me what you have on your head and also someone with a TF. If I have a TD head what is the NGK plug number I should be using... Thanks for any info.... John |

Easy way to tell the spark plug depth is with a paper clip. Bend one end 90 degrees, stick in the spark plug hole, catch the inner edge, then take out and measure. |
