MG TD TF 1500 - TD pulls to the left on acceleration
Max 53TD went out for a drive today. Upon modest acceleration the car wanted to pull to the left. I know that I have seen this topic discussed in the past but I can't find it in the archives. I seem to recall that it had something to do with the rear shackles or something like that. Mine seem to be tight. Any ideas? Mark |

Check the U bolts on the springs to axle. Usually the cause when loose. Next place is the front bolts on the springs and check for oval mounting holes on the frame. |

I think Mark's referring to an old post of mine. My TD pulls slightly to the left when DEcellerating from about 50mph. I've checked all the usual things but have found nothing to date. My guess is my rims are not perfectly round and I'm just living with it. Ed |

LaVerne, I took a look at the U bolts and sure enough they were loose on the left side. A real bear of a job getting them off. Need to check the right side as well. I'm going to get the saddles to put over the axle. Going to do this on both sides. I saw that the wheel cylinder was leaking when I had the wheel was off. Might just as well replace all 6 cylinders and get it done with. Also noticed that the link was mostly off on the left side probably from the U bolts being loose. The shock is a Girling even though my car was made on the last day of production for TD's. Some PO must have changed the rear shocks in the past and went with Girlings instead of Armstrongs. I don't think that there will be a problem with this except that I need a new link(s) with bushings. Do you know if the links from Moss come with bushings installed and are the studs with the rubber inserts installed when recieved? Can't see any wear on the axle splines. Some wear on the drum splines so I'll start looking to see what may be kicking around for a good used replacement. Don't know about the right side drum yet. I have two new axles but the existing ones look good and since there are no leaks in the seal area I don't want to start pulling them just to check things out of curiosity. Thanks for the tip. Ed, I think that I recall your previous post. Must have gotten the idea of the possibility of the U bolts from there and then was later confirmed by LaVern. Mark |

Make sure that the leaf spring centering bolt pn 320-468 is not broken, or loose, this is the 1st issue to address for this concern. |
