MG TD TF 1500 - TD Rear Splash Pan Screws?
Hi All, I am checking on the correct screws which affix the rear splash(stoneguard) panel on a TD. I suspect they were chrome plated,Phillips Head ? Were they the same for all TDs? Cheers Rob Grantham |

Painted hex head bolts on the TD1250. Chrome phillips machine screws with chrome washers not long after that. |

Rob: On June 1950 and later cars yes. See Rear Splash Pan https://www.mg-cars.org.uk/mgtd/mgtd_bolts.htm I guess some day I need to figure out what the cut over date/serial was for some of the very early cars such as 1250. It looks like by December of 1949 they had pretty much gotten into the groove. |

Thanks boys. I did actually read the of the items on the The Original MGTD midget site before posting the Thread, however I certainly needed clarification on the hex heads as I had always assumed that only the chrome Phillips Head screws were used(like the ones on the front valence). Cheers Rob G. |

Painted hex on the front, and only on the very early cars as stated above. I haven't found any factory pictures of the rear with the pan on. I have been able to get a screenshot of one car in the Safety Fast Video. This is on the car carrier.
Can't make out the details of the fastener, but it may be painted. Note the chrome bolt on the fuel tank side panel shows up differently than the rear panel fastener. This again is a very early TD. So most likely yours would be chrome phillips machine screws. |
