MG TD TF 1500 - TD trans Dip Stick Replacement

I misplaced the dip stick for the TD transmission and was going to build a replacement. David DuBois was kind enough to loan me one to use as a replacement.

In going over my spares, I found I have a dip stick from my old MG midget. I was thinking it would make a good donor for the one I was building.

To my surprize, the length from the shield to the tip is exactly the same as the TD.

All I have to do is make some modifications to the length of the top and reduce the length of the top rod.

And just to clarify that is a Midget engine dipstick along side the TD gearbox dipstick.

Correct that is an engine Dip stick from the Midget.

George. Yea, I have been watching that one. Been on there for months. I know mine is in my shop and it will turn up. so figured I would wait it out and since I found the midget one, It will work until mine turns up.

Another substitute trans dipstick...

After installing our heater way down in the footwell, the original dipstick was to bulky to slip in, so I made one from a stainless welding wire. It has a slight curve, but works perfect. I bent the top end form a combination handle/stop, and slipped on a small O-ring as a "dust seal" (at least in theory) then pinched other the end of the wire in a vice to flatten it out and give it a crosshatch pattern that looks just like what you'd find on a dipstick.

All one would really need to know is the dimension from the little shield down to the mark.
