MG TD TF 1500 - TD trivia...
Had a wedding using wedding cars tonbridge last Saturday with the Rolls and during a lull, looked it over (man...that is a nice car....one of three in the livery)...Anyway, the Rolls (1960 anyway) shares a common body piece with the TD (TC,TF i think as well).... Exactly the same manufacture, just one difference.......??????? |

Toolbox lid? I can't think of anything exterior to the car. Not even the TD and the TF share that much. They look similar, but every body piece I can think of is different. |

I'm guessing lights......probably the running lights on the front wings? The difference is that the Rolls's are solid gold. |

Nope.. the front running lights have the neatest little glass lenses...not just the convex ones we have.... The tool box I believe is under a seat (if you really have a tool box in a Rolls... isn't there an urban myth about mysterious mechanics fixing them in the Alps and then no one ever finding a work order?) |

Ok, I think it is one of two parts. Best guess is the front fender mirror. Second guess would be the voltage regulator. I know the TD regulator was also used on the Jag, so it would not be a stretch to see it on the Rolls. |

Probably something Lucas.. |

The mirrors are the same, but put on left for right, it brings the actual mirror up over the centerline of the fender.... (that one i hadn't remembered). The one i noticed was the chrome/brass (or stainless) hood hinge piece, it comes from the same manufacturer... just about 2 feet longer. (and i assume...10 x as expensive- We had a small pinhole leak in one of the gastanks.... got a price from England for a new one.... $22,000 !!!!!) |

Gordon; Did you check the diameter of the mirror itself. All the Rolls that I have seen use what appears to be the same but actually is at least 1/2" larger in diameter. I do have one and I can measure it to compare. Sandy Sanders |

Thats interesting... will measure it later today... certainly looked the same dia! You know, the English (or world) manufacturing processes of history are really unbelievable... so costly to produce slightly different parts..when the same ones would have worked in most cases..... (BMW is probably the worst.... almost every model of every series takes a different wheel stud layout.....) |

Price for the Roll's gas tank was obviously because it was full of Katrina petrol. |
