MG TD TF 1500 - TD wheels
Before lockdown I worked on a friends car I think TD1102. It had the 2 piece brake drums with 2 holes for adjustment but no holes in the non slotted wheels for brake adjustment.
Yesterday I renewed a rear brake cylinder on another friends car (we are allowed to meet one person outdoors with social distancing). This is an earlier car but can't remember chassis number. This car has the 2 piece brake drums with 2 holes for adjustment but the wheels (non slotted) have also 2 holes. Only being used to TF's it was strange to see the offset holes. Are both correct? It was a good excuse for a 50 mile run in the TF ;-) Ray TF 2884 |

TD 4936 (11/50) did not have holes in the rim for adjusting. It has solid brake drums in the front and two-piece in the rear. While I can't say for sure, I think these may have been on the car from the factory. That is only a small number off of when they supposedly changed to the one-piece drum and we know that it is not unusual to see change items show up earlier than the car number in the books. Not sure when they started adding the adjusting hole in the rim. |
