MG TD TF 1500 - TD wipers again
I have a type of window wiper where the two wipers are fixed to the rod with two small screws. Both of them broke, but I got them out (with help from my mg specialist, Bjørn Rygh in Oslo), or rather, he got them out. I got one screw from another MG TD owner before I realized both screws were broken. But luckily, he had a second one! But alas. When his letter arrived, it ws empty. There was a small hole in the envelope, in the paper inside the envelope and in the plastic bag inside the paper. So no screw. He checked if they had found it at the Post Office. Negative. I have been searching for another one, and now I ask here. See the image. I am also trying to figure out how the wiper blade is fixed to the wiper itself. Does anybody have an image here, or another way to fasten it than with those two screws that go into each end of the rod? |

I see that nobody can help me with this screw. But can somebody show me how the wiper blade is connected to the wiper? Preferably with an image. |

Raymond, the wiper blade is held onto the wiper arm by a small cone-shaped piece of rubber. There is a circular flange on the edge of the wiper blade that passes through a slot in the arm. The rubber piece goes through this circular flange and holds the blade in place while allowing it to flip. A photo would be better, but I don't access at the moment. Sorry Bud |

Thank you, Bud. And how is the wiper attached to the rod from the motor? |

Thank you Gordon. I will study these closely and compare them to mine when I get my car out on Tuesday, |

GBLawson: Gordon, this is exactly like mine. In your image 1 there is a little screw that goes into the rod. I have just taken the similar image (see below). But this screw seems impossible to find. So I have to start thinking about how to improvise the fastening... The image shows I have only half a screw :-( |

Raymond: Find a competent machinist with a lathe and take the remaining part of the old screw with you. Also provide him with a total finished length you need (since part of it is missing). He should be able to make you as many as you want. Probably be a bit expensive...but he/she can make them. Brian |
