MG TD TF 1500 - TD Wiring Harness Protective Covers
A few posts ago the TF owners commented on all the protective plastic covers they have on cables and wires. Up until recently I was only aware of the rubber cover on TD's for the license plate lamp wire. Years ago David Honnes sent me a comment and picture that his car had a protective sheath on the main power cable below the fuel pump and going to the starter switch. I did not think much of it because, as you can see in the picture below, he has a newer fuel pump and that cover might have been added by a PO. After looking over that area from the collection of a number of unrestored cars I have discovered this was common. I looked in my parts manual (1951 with a supplement added in 1955) and could not find an entry for it under electrical. Maybe its there but I sure did not see it. |

The sheath is on this car too.

And here.

Chris; Do you think this may be the same protective plastic tube used in the MGA to protect the wiring that went to the turn signal and headlamp wiring, as it passed through the front fenders? |

Not sure but it looks the same as all the TF protective coverings. Note that the license lamp actually used a rubber sheath versus this thin plastic like material. |
