MG TD TF 1500 - TD with rare hardtop
Surfing the internet I came across this '52 TD, for sale in Avelgem (Flanders) Belgium, and equipped with a rare hardtop. Thought I'ld share... Jasper |

Rare indeed. It seems to follow the line of the soft top pretty faithfully - wonder if the side curtains fit? BobbyG |

Looks good I have often thought that when I get my TF up to standard I will make a mould and fabricate a glass fibre and resin hardtop for my TF. Unfortunately lots of more important things to do on the TF first mgtf 9194 |

Could be a new one. The chrome trim looks different around the window area. http://www.mg-cars.org.uk/mgtd/mgtd_accessories_tonneaus.htm |

I believe my fiberglass hardtop is the same model as the one Jasper found. I also made a custom set of side curtains to fit for colder days. It is very comfortable and fits well.

Jim, I have a hardtop like yours. I am going to put portholes in the sides for better vision and I like the 57 t bird looks LOL> |

Tom, I think that is a very good idea to put the portholes in the top. They would eliminate the "blind spot" that we have. I am fortunate in that I have a RHD TD and that minimizes the problem for me in most situations. |

The old side curtains worked like hood scoops for cold air so we made some heavy ones out of leather. It is a composition of 2 layers of leather (stripped form an old couch) with aluminum screen and magnets glued strategically.

The short flap only reaches to the end of the door sill and the frame is bent in tight to the windshield. A small mini section fits inside the door to exclude air and complete the transition to the window. At highway speeds, the draft inside is cut down by about a factor of ten, so the heater actually cuts the cold a touch. |

The weight and the magnet hold the flap snug so there's no need for a strap & snap. It is also nice to finally be able to se out the side curtains again. The old one had that dep yellow tint! By the way, ours came with the conventional front side curtain and a small sail shaped panel for the rear. |
