MG TD TF 1500 - TD/YT?
Hey all, there is a rough shape YT for sale that my wife and I are talking about. Is the running gear, suspension, brakes, gearbox, rear end and such common to both cars? I know it uses the good old XPAG. Thanks, Tom (in bitter cold and snowy New York). COME ON SPRING! |

Hello Tom, There are a few differences TD/YT. In summary:- 16" wheels on YT - 15" on TD Single leading shoe front brakes on YT, Twin on TD Rear axle banjo & diff centre are not the same Suspension design is the same, springs are different Y-Type Brake master cylinder is unique Gearbox extention is different, but I think the ratios are compatible The YT gives you four seats - great for Grandkids once you fit some seat belts !. The YT was fitted with twin carbs and the TC camshaft, so has more power than the YA, but maybe not as lively as a TD. Hop on over to the Y-Type BBS if you have any more questions, and don't forget to check out the worlds largest FREE online resource on Y-Types - "The International MG T-Type Register" Website. Hi Thomas, Perhaps not part of your question but the Y chassis is underslung at the rear while the TD goes over the rear axle. Yes the gear ratios are the same. Bob Schapel (on a 104 degree F day in Adelaide ... come on Autumn!) |
