MG TD TF 1500 - TD, Horn & headlamp dipper switch

Hi all,

does anybody know’s how the wire becomes to connect with the “Horn & headlamp dipper switch” ? I don’t have the old Dashboard and I don’t have an Idea.

Here the pictures from the switch

George -- The wire that goes to the terminal about which the Hi/Lo lever rotates comes from the 'H' terminal of the ignition switch. The other two terminals connect to the headlights. A red/blue wire to the low beams and a yellow/blue to the high beams. Which is which depends on you, which way do you want the switch to be for high beam.

From your pictures I did not see the terminal for the horns. The wire will be brown/black that goes to the horns.

I hope this helps.

Bob,

i have a wiring diagramm and so i know the colors of the wire, but i don't know the fasteners from the wire to the switch. There are grub screws into the switch and i misunderstand how it works.

Georg,

This looks like the same aftermarket switch I bought for my TD. For the dip swtch wires: you need to loosen the screws right back then strip the wire by about 8mm, push the stripped wire in the hole, from the back of the switch, then tighen the screw. The screw has a point on it, so as it tightens, the wire strands are spread out gripping against the side of the connector.
For the horn push: thread the two wires through the slot in the backplate and fix them to the normal screw connectors. one of these (the black) needs to go to earth.

I have been through this recently also. You are lucky that you have an original lucas style switch, and not the recent reproductions that changed the designs and can't be made to work properly. This design is simple and reliable.
