MG TD TF 1500 - TD & TF Chassis Differences
What are the differences, if any, between a LHD TD and TF chassis? Are the dumb irons the same length, are all the holes the same, spring perches, etc, etc? PJ |

The main changes between a TD and TF chassis are: 1. TF chassis has a flange welded on the hoop that goes up through the body tub to hold a bracket for the steering column. (The TD bracket bolts to the tub..) 2. The TF has bungs welded on the frame rails and a bracket on the rear most cross member to accept the spare tire carrier. 3. All but the earliest TF frames have a bracket welded on the right rear to accept the fuel pump. As far as I know, those are the only differences. All measurements and other aspects of the two frames are the same. -David |

Paul, my TD has a TF chassis that has all the features described by David. It seems to fit perfectly to the TD components. Matt |

Question answered. Thanks guys. PJ |

The measurement from the centre of the crossmember to the end of the dumbiron is 1.2813 inches longer on the TD than the TF. TD 15.0938 inches TF 13.8125 inches Page S.7 of my copy of the Workshop Manual. Would make a difference if trying to fit TF fenders to a TD (don't know why you want to do this). Ian |

Paul, is that length in the dumb iron, or the spacer by the bumper? Now I have to go out to the garage and check. -David |

I know of a TD chassis that's available and wondered of the mods, if any, that would be needed to convert it for use on a TF. Still might pick it up and store it away. I also know of a restored, powder coated TF chassis hanging up in a guys garage which he has no use for. Tried to buy it, but at the time, he wasn't interested. PJ |
