MG TD TF 1500 - TF 1500 paint color

I'm trying to match the original "ivory" or yellow color for my 55 TF 1500. Any Suggestions?

Thanks

The BMC Ivory was BMC's code YL5. This crosses to the following modern paints:

PPG (Ditzler) 81271
R-M BM127
Dupont Enamel 83449
Martin Senour 25235

If you need a cross for any other color let me know.

I am down the basement right now so I don't have the web site at my finger tips but the other day I did a google search for "DITZLER" and ended up at some really great sites which gave a history of Ditzler and PPG and I eventually ended at a site that has the listing for all the MG-BMC-Austin cars. My local Automotive Color Supply can frovide the proper colors from these listings in any medium you want, Enamel, Lacquer, base/coat clear/coat. I have a number of Doepke MGTD (they call it MGT) models all diecast and about 15" long that I am detailing and want to paint one of each color MG offered for the TD, that's why I went looking. For my car (red) I just took a piece in and they matched it with the computer and mixed my paint in a lacquor and put it in spray cans so I can do my own touch up.

Dave go to this site and you can get the proper color number which any good auto paint store should be able to mix.

If you want to ge really picky get the all the available mixes and spray test cards. You'll find subtle differences in color and you might like one better than the others.Otherwise choose the paint you are most comfortable with spraying.

If you want to get really picky buy small cans from all the available manufacturers and spray test cards. You'll find subtle differences in color and you might like one better than the others.Otherwise choose the paint you are most comfortable with spraying.

PPG paint code 81271 it may be the OEM code that the paint shop require.

All the cream cars in this town appear the same shade as mine... which was colour-matched to Mitsubishi's Manila Cream.

(very popular shade for 1970s Sigmas, if the dayglo orange or lime green didn't match your corduroy flares) :-P

As we all by now know, the factory never painted two batches the same colour. There is no such unique colour as “MG Red” (Emgee Red); and similar for many other “official” MG colours.

The best reference available to date on MG colours, was by Hal Kramer in the June 1996 TSO and available as a reprint from Gene Fodor (NEMGT Reg.). This excellent article described the many convolutions and interpretations of the various “official” T-Series colours and he also includes swatches that unfortunately didn’t print well; and the colour numbers.

As for the cream - ‘cream’ on the TA and TB, ‘ivory’ on the TC, TD and both TFs, it would appear that the closest PPG/Ditzler is 80203 for the ‘cream’ and PPG/Ditzler 81271 for the ‘ivory’. There is also a DuPont enamel number for the ivory - 83449.

But that was 8 years ago and I don't doubt that there have been many up-dates to these numbers, since.
