MG TD TF 1500 - TF Aero Screen installation
I am fitting a full tonneau cover and think I will have to remove Brooklands Aero Screens to make room for the tonneau. I think there will not be enough clearance between Aeros and windshield if I move them forward on the cowl. Therefore I am contemplating mounting them on the inside lower edge of the main windshield frame by through-bolting with acorn cap nuts (s/s) on the outside of the windshield which will involve drilling eight mounting holes through the windshield frame. My question is how far do I have to be from the inner edge of the frame to avoid hitting the glass with the drill, or, in other words, how far does the glass insert into the frame? Or better still, assuming the main frame is an "H" design, how far does the rubber weather strip on the outer edge insert into the frame? I hope I am clear on this. SEAMUS |

Can't answer your windscreen question but, when I mounted my aero screens, I cut slots into the front of my tonneau to fit around the mounting posts, so I could leave the screens in place with the tonneau in place, and had an uphostery shop finish the edges of the slots with matching edging material. I contemplated just cutting oval holes to accomodate the posts and finishing those, but that meant removing the screens themselves to use the tonneau each time. I chose the former method. Now, my tonneau is well used, so you may not wish to do either of these with a new tonneau cover. Just a thought. Larry |

Hi Seamus My TF has both aero screens and a full tonneau and the fixing for both just fits on the scuttle OK. Measurements are as follows. All measurements are from the rear of the scuttle where it meets the padded crash bar 1. Tonneau studs position - outside 1 inch, inside near mirror 0.5 inch. 2. Brooklands aero screen fixing - outside 1.75 in and inside near mirror 1.25 inch - both to centre of screws. Tonneau just overlaps bottom of mounting for aero screens. I've put some pictures up at http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/4mgtf1500/pages/mg_bits_and_pieces.html Regards David |

Hi Seamus: I mounted Brooklands screens on my TC windshield just as you have suggested. They worked rather well . . . guite low when the windscreen was up and high when the wind screen was down. I drilled the windscreen frame as close to the edge as I could and still hit the glass. I threaded the ends of the Brooklands mounting brackets and then ground the top half off of the threaded portion off so that they would go under the screen glass. I held them on just as you suggeted with acorn nuts. The never needed tightening over 35 years of use. A better solution would have been to remove the glass and have a glass shop cut notches to clear the threaded pegs. Godspeed in Safety Fast Jc |

Larry: I am using your option as a solution since it appears easiest way out and my daughter is a pretty good seamstress. I removed the screens and fitted the tonneau to the existing studs. It took me about two hours, since I have a 'dot' cutting tool. I started with the two rear between the tank straps, then the two front either side of the mirror. Then worked forward to the door, then back to the door. Last ones were both doors. It came out awesome, even and slightly taut. I appreciate the other suggestions. Thanks SEAMUS |
