MG TD TF 1500 - TF brake M/C help
Hi all, I am having trouble with the assembly of my brake M/C. With the spring, master cup and piston everything goes in and out, with the secondary cup assembled nothing moves! And does the secondary cup fit ON the cylinder? The diagram in the WSM doesn't show a dished washer between the master cup and cylinder, like the MGA, but one came out of my M/C. Does anyone have a CLEAR diagram of the assembly? Thanks in advance. Don Sth. Oz TF 4887 |

Also add to above. Could someone tell me the length of the piston. Don Sth. Oz TF4887 |

This sounds suspiciously like the problem Bud K. documented a couple years ago. Some of the rebuild kits had improper secondary cups that would be too fat when installed on the piston. Yes, the thin flat washer goes where yours was, this was added to the picture in the shop manual version I have. George |

Don, have you recently installed a rebuild kit in your master cylinder? A couple of years ago George Butz and I discovered a problem with the secondary piston cups (WSM Page M.2 No.16). The groove molded into the cup to fit over the shoulder of the piston is slightly too small. As a result the piston binds in the bore. I'll see if I can find the archive reference for this. Have you looked at the WSM diagram in Page M.2? Bud |

Thanks George and Bud, you are correct, the secondary cup is too large, I borrowed a friends piston and cup and it moves freely. I note that the other piston is about 1/4" shorter! I will look at the mentioned thread. Regards, Don Sth. Oz TF 4887 |
