MG TD TF 1500 - TF Carburettor Advice
Hi Guys One of my carbs is damaged and I have an opportunity to buy a replacement body for $150 newly bushed. I am a bit confused by the markings on the body of mine and the replacement. Mine has AUC6020 cast into it but underneath is written 6021. The replacement has 4468 cast into it but scraped out. Written beside it is AUC6021. Does anyone know what this is all about and is the replacement identical. Thanks Darryl Pic is of my damaged card and it's markings |

The damage to the area attaching to the air filter on mine is shown in the pic below. Plus the bolt and hole that holds on the float bowl has been oversized substantially.

This is what Joe had to say "The cast in number is the basic casting number , the hand written number is the final part number after SU did machine work. The hand written AUC 6021 is proper number for rear carb on mgtf: Interesting to know... |

Darryl. I found exactly the same markings on my carbs (both of them) as on yours. I think that there are people out there that repair that kind of damage to the mounting flange. I don't know how strong the repairs are though. Sorry, but I can't point you in the right direction. Dave H |

Thanks Dave. Joes comment was interesting in that the casting numbers were overwritten as the specific work was done by SU. I just wanted to make sure it was a direct replacement as it would be hard to rectify after it arrived. I probably would have done with the chunk out of the air cleaner part but when I also discovered the oversized float bowl bolt didn't fit any of the new washers I thought it was time to bit the bullet on this. |

Darryl. On second thoughts, try Stotfold Engineers as they repair alloy crankcases, etc., for motorcycles and various other alloy parts for classic cars. www.stotfoldengineers.co.uk Dave H |

Thanks Dave for the advice. I may look at getting the original sorted at some point down the road and they will be a good contact to have. |
