MG TD TF 1500 - TF Carpet Install
I've looked at the Complete TD Restoration Manual chapter on carpet installation, which differs quite a bit from instructions in MG-cars.org/mgtd/carpeting. Specifically, where the front and under-seat pieces meet up are different. 1. For the TF: how far forward does the under-seat piece extend and how much to the rear does the front piece extend? Any overlapping? 2. Do I need to determine the seat slide T-nut locations before I begin the carpet installation? Comments on the Moss carpet kit quality will follow in latter post. Thanks for any advice. Tyler |

Tyler - 99% of your questions will be answered by the excellent carpet instructions on Chris Couper's site. http://www.mg-cars.org.uk/mgtd/mgtd_carpet.htm I followed them to install Moss carpets in my TF. Look wonderful. I've removed them twice. Look just as good after I reinstalled them. I'm happy with the Moss carpet set. Yes, locate the tee nuts for the seats before you start installing carpet. I marked a line perpendicular to the floorboard rails to align them square to the car. Set both seats on the floorboards before you drill the holes to make sure that they are centered between each other and the sides of the cockpit. Roy Challberg's floorboard patterns on Bud Krueger's TTalk may help you locate the position of the tee nuts fore and aft. http://www.ttalk.info/MG%20Floorboards%20Rev%206.pdf (The link may not work because of code "%20" for spaces between the words. Bud may be able to give you a better link.) Look at photos of the interior of TF9052 - unrestored TF with less than 6,000 miles. http://www.mg-cars.org.uk/mgtf/Pictures/TF9052/Thumbnails/mgtf_tf9052.htm Some suggestions: > Don't glue carpet to the flange of the drive shaft tunnel. Also leave a couple of inches on the heel board around the tunnel without glue. Slit the carpet at the holes for the screws. Otherwise, it's very difficult to remove the tunnel and floorboards if needed. > I put two snaps at the back of the carpet pieces that are under the seats near the heel board to secure them better.
