MG TD TF 1500 - TF Clock
My MG TF1500 is missing its clock, seems to be a common occurrence in the marque. Is there a replacement available or a suitable alternative that could be adapted. The trip meter re-set control also seems to be missing - it seems that my specimen is devoid of a lot of things! |

You might try Johm Marks at Vintage Restorations (see ad in BBS header). He might have a clock, or know of a source. There is an outfit that is supplying a quartz clock for the TC/TD, and should have a version for the TF by now. They have advertised in various MG magazines recently. Mr. Marks may also have a source for the odometer trip cable. |

Robert thanks for the pictures of your TF. Sorry about the file size and time to down load. Go have a cuppa next time. I will look for a TF clock for you. There are no new ones available. By the way, none of them ever work so they are purely decorative. Mine does not work and I will not fix it. RE: quartz movements for TD's will not work in the TF. By the way I am looking for a "original" front license plate holder, the rectangular, black plate. Do you have any leads? I have a friend who is "Mr Original TF Fiend of the World" Paul Probst in Holland MI USA. He has documented almost every original part on the TF and has done a who series of sketches of many items. By the way my wife has a doctorate in IT. Small world. |

The makers of the quartz clock adaption said originally that they could not fit the clock in the TF, but could in the TC-TD, in which the clock is internal to the gauge. The reason being not enough room inside the TF gauge. They didn't realize the TF clock mechanism was mounted externally to the gauge. On this being pointed out to them, they said that they would come up with a version for the TF. I don't know if they have done so yet, but they were working on it. A few inquiries from TF owners might spur them on. IT's worth an inquiry. In spite of what has been said, my TF clock worked fine from 1986 to this year, after being reworked by Mr. Marks. It now needs cleaning and oiling, and the contacts cleaned. A transistor modification ( Lawrie Rhodes?), will overcome the most common problem with this type of clock, (as with SU fuel pumps), contacts getting pitted and corroded. My original clock worked fine for 13 years, as did most. After 30-40 years without maintainance, it is not surprising trhat many do not work today. But our inquirer needs a clock to start with! He might also try O'Connor Classic Auto in California. He has a large stock of used T-series parts. ( See the TSO for his ad.) |

Don Where can I contact the makers of the quartz clock adaption? I could be interested in one for my TF and as you say, a few inquiries may spur them on. |
