MG TD TF 1500 - TF Dash Knobs

Why is it the TF operations manual shows different dash knobs than the octagon ones? Reading my manual this morning this popped up and I never noticed it before. Anyone have a clue? PJ

Hi Paul,

There are quite a few anomalies in the TF Handbook.
I suspect the Factory got out the order for the printing of the Handbooks very promptly, before actual production
commenced and used the prototype TF as the guide for the Handbook illustrations. The actual knobs are of course not the coarse knurled look!

You may also notice in the TF Handbook a sketch which shows the breather pipe affixed to the rocker cover/carby. Although wire type clips are depicted in the Handbook illustration,in production "Jubilee" clips were in fact fitted.(they probably worked out that with the very short exit pipe on the rocker cover, the wire clips on the protoype leaked!).

If you examine the TF Parts Manual, you will see the "Jubilee" clips listed and depicted.

On the TF Water Hoses, wire clips were the order of the day originally.

Cheers for now

Hi Paul,

I think it was simply a case of an initial design, later changed in production. They had probably already had the manuals printed, and no customer at the time would have noticed or been bothered.

Cheers,

Rob, I have the jubilee clips on my breather hose. Bought them straight from Jubilee. Other than the screw is not a cheese head, the clip is the same.

Paul -

I believe that the gear slots on the original Jubilee clips for the breather pipe were only cut on the last 3/4 inch or so. The slots were not visible from the top.

Well, Wrong again. I knew the screws on the original ones were cheese heads, but not that the screw groves were cut only partially around. Funny because I talked to a guy from Jubilee and he told me the only difference was the screw. So he didn't know a lot about his own product either and I had to buy a box of them for them to place the order. Live and learn. PJ

If that's the worse thing that happens in the restoration of your TF, then you are living a charmed life!! Your Jubilee clamps look a lot better than standard gear clamps from NAPA et al. I wish that my TF looked half as good as yours.
