MG TD TF 1500 - TF Front Wings and Headlamps
I built up the TF's body some time ago using perfect, original MG wings. I spent a lot of time ensuring the front ones were square and looked right front all angles. Fortunately I decided to assemble everthing with the body in primer just to be sure all was right. Today I attempted to fit my new Lucas halogen headlamps along with genuine Lucas backing bowls and rubber gaskets. I quickly realised something was wrong when I stood back and looked at the car front on. Both headlamps were out of alignment. By this I mean the ribs on the glass were not vertical nor horizontal. I had to file the holes in the wing by about 1/8" so I could twist the lamps to get them aligned. If I had left them I don't know if the beams would have been wrong but they certainly look better. I did check them against a pair of Lucas sealed beam units and there is nothing wrong with the halogens. The sealed beams are shinier though when looked through the glass with the bulbs off - almost the difference between chrome plate and polished stainless steel. Jan T |

Jan Did you reassemble using the front fender tie bar? This part is unique to the TF. Tom '54 TF |
