MG TD TF 1500 - TF fuel pump orientation

Hi, the PO or my TF-1500 long ago replaced the my Su fuel pump with a non-original and I'm putting an SU back in. There are four ways it can mount to the mounting plate, but if I follow the directions on the pump stamping (outlet uppermost), it looks like there will be very little room for running the fuel pipe. Currently, the body is off the car, so I'm just estimating the amount of space available.

So, should the outlet point down or up? Is the body of the pump over the frame rail, or does it hang towards the center of the car? Since the "High Pressure" SU fuel pump has a valve to prevent siphoning, it should work in any position, I think. Do I need any elbows or other fittings? I've found several photos of how the TD fuel pump is fitted, but not info on the TF. Unfortunately, since my car had a replacement pump (bodged in, natch), I don't really have a good record of how it was mounted or should have been.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Mark:

I'll take a few pictures of my fuel pump installation. I'll e-mail them to you.

Thanks, Jim. My best current guess is that the pump is over the frame rail, with the outlet pointing straight up. And there's a 90 degree elbow on the outlet pointing toward the front of the car.

Of course I could be totally wrong. It happens, on rare occasions. ;) I'm looking forward to the pictures. When I get them, I can post them on a website, with your permission, of course.

Thanks, MB

Here are Jim's pictures:

From the left side:

These gave me the info I needed, and showed the fuel pipe routing, which I would have had a hard time figuring out without a picture.

Thanks for taking the time, and especially thanks for crawling up under the car, Jim. I owe you one!
