MG TD TF 1500 - TF headlight trim
Have a problem trying to find the correct chrome trim around the headlights on my TF1500. I have three different ones and don't know which is correct. First of all do they attach with a clip at the bottom and screw at the top? Second what is the diameter on the front side. I have one 7 1/8 and one 6 5/8 measured from the inside of the front edge. My fenders are at the paint shop so I can't check the fit to the fender profile. Any help would be appreciated so I can order a correct match. Bob |

I don't have measurements but the clip goes to the top and the screw to the bottom...7 1/8 sounds correct

Tks, LaVerne the one I received from my order was the right diameter but is missing the clip. The smaller one I had and can't remember the source has no screws but two clips. Not sure what it fits??? |

The screw goes through a hole in the bottom of the trim ring and then into a threaded clip on the headlight bucket. The clip for the screw may be missing from the bucket. Moss sells the clip ... "CLIP, rim monting" part #156-010. {"monting" is Moss' spelling, not mine.} Lonnie TF7211 |

Lonnie, Good advice because I am missing one of the clips.. |

Can any TF owners confirm whether there is a clip on the inside of the headlight trim ring similar to the photo. This is one from the stuff that came with the car but the new repo I bought did not have the clip only the rivet. It would seem to me that it should have a clip?? Anyone have a sample of the correct one to confirm which one is correct. |

Bob, This one of the ones I took off of the car before restoring it. Top has the clip riveted on and the bottom with the countersunk hole and drain hole along side. PJ |

Bob - I can't remember exactly, but I believe that one of my rims has a clip like Paul's that hooks onto the top of the headlight bucket. The other one doesn't, but it still locks onto the top of the bucket OK. The screw at the bottom holds it securely. I vaguely remember reading that some reproduction rims have a dimple to simulate the original rivet. Lonnie TF7211 |

Thanks Paul exactly what I needed to know, my repo is wrong. Are yours original or aftermarket? |
R Brown |
Are the reproduction rims faithful to the originals? tom |
T Norby |
Bob, I really don't know if their originals or not. They were on the car when I got it a few years ago. PJ |

Tom, I have a pair of repos in the shop and I think the curve from the bucket to the lens is slightly different, a little sharper. I'll look. PJ |
Paul S Jennings |
Paul, while your at it what did you use to attach the headlight buckets to the fender, mine are the paint shop and wondered what kind of bolts were used?? |
R Brown |
Bob, If I remember correctly, small pan head sheet metal screws into clips. PJ |
Paul S Jennings |
Thanks, That would make sense as there were no clips on the fenders when I got them but access would probably make any other option impractical. |
Robert Brown |
Paul, Another question, where did you get your rims?? |
Robert Brown |
Bob, I got my new rims from NOS Locators, Pawtucket, RI 401-725-5000. Just Goggle them. PJ |
Paul S Jennings |
I got some from them but they did not have the clip... |
