MG TD TF 1500 - TF in MG Showroom - Australia

Can anyone tell me about the history of this TF that is in an MG dealer's showroom in Australia? A member of our MG club (The Classic MG Club of Orlando) was recently in Australia and saw it. No one knew much about it. It drove "Around Australia" in 1975. The car was repainted red to match a new MG in the showroom. (It was Light Grey when it left Abingdon.)

Using the license plate number, I found production information about the TF on the MGCC site:
Car # HDB26/1875
Original Engine #XPAG/TF/31803
Original color Light Grey
Build Date: Friday, 18-Dec-1953
Built the 33rd day of regular TF production
One of four RHD Export cars built that day, all four were Light Grey.

Thanks for your help,

Looks like a nice car.

Making enquiries Lonnie. The only TF I know of that went around Australia is owned by Matthew Magilton.

Lonnie, can you let us know which Australian MG showroom the car was seen in, as this will help us track it down.

My local Gold Coast MG showroom has a TF on display, but the showroom you show is not that one.

Making enquiries Lonnie. The only TF I know of that went around Australia is owned by Matthew Magilton. There were many ‘round Australia rallies in the50s and 60s and MG were represented even though out paced by the larger cars. Mostly TCs and TDS it seems. Roads were tough and river crossings often without bridges. Today you can drive around Australia on sealed roads if you have a lot of time to spare.

Ian Hazeldine told the history of TF in the MG showroom on the other MG T-series forum. Very interesting and convoluted story.

Sure is a nice looking car. The registration plate would appear to be New South Wales, in that yellow with black lettering. Just saying.
