On a left hand drive car, is the Speedometer on the left or right of the panel, or the same as a right hand drive? PJ

Interesting pic because that is the setup for my right hand car. However just recently a forum member dropped over in his right hand drive car and the rev counter was closest to the steering wheel where my speedo is. I know this clarify nothing. Sorry guess I also need an answer.

My car, original positions.

Matthew.

Thanks Matthew I wonder why mine were reversed so. Good to know.

It seems the tacho should always be on the steering wheel side on TF's. This took some sorting on my TD as I have pics of LHD & RHD cars with the instruments not just mirror opposites, but all over the place. Cheers

So, the answer to my question is? Tach under steering wheel? My manual shows Mathews dash layout, but then again it's right hand drive. PJ
Paul S Jennings

The rev counter was under the steering wheel originally.
If your speed cameras are as prolific as ours then then like me you will have the speedo where you can see it.
We have time lapse, hand held, vehicle mounted, average speed and fixed cameras with number plate recognition ability.

My LHD TF has the tach closest to the driver and the speedo on the passenger side.
Jack Long

Note: Also reversed are the choke and starter cables between LHD and RHD.

On my LHD the Panel light switch (P) is on the left and the Auxillary (A) is on the right.

I think everything is mirrored except the lights (L) and ignition.

Thanks guys, that will get me started. I'm going to start on the dash wiring in a couple days. PJ

I think the tachometer should generally be placed closest to the driver. As I recall (attempting to think back about 40 years) when I lived in Europe the Europeans tended to drive using the tachometer much more than the speedometer. My Porsche, in Europe, had a large tachometer close to the driver and very easy to see versus the speedometer.
Then again, the placement probably varied depending on the country.
