MG TD TF 1500 - TF interior
I am getting reaaaaaaly close to finishing this 13 year TF project having just finished hanging the doors now moving on to installing all of the interior panels. I have worked out all of panels from the doors rearward. I do,however; have an issue with how to install the two front kick panels specifically where they fit up around the dash corners.... So! I have searched the archives and cannot find any photos that show the details of these two corners. Thus! Would any of those of you who might have photos of this area on the TF please post them or send then to me at Rod-murray(at)hotmail.com.
Thank you in advance for any help! Rod Murray TF 3006 (1954) |

Hi Rod, Check out 'The Original mgtf midget' site, photo no.338 under INTERIOR. Worth noting that the interior piping continues on AND turns upward along the kick panel and the body. Similar to the turn up run on the crash pad's smaller diameter piping also depictedi in photo 338. I have just finished the interior of our TF1500. To achieve the close fitting result wanted, it was, as per usual, a time consuming task. Cheers Rob Grantham TF 3719("Aramis"),TF9177("Athos"). |

Thanks Rob! Both 312 & 338 show that somehow I do need to “tuck” the kickpanel up between the dash “claw” and the body wall! Yuk! Regards Rod TF3006 |

Hi Rod,
To hold the 'tuck position' of the piping in place, use a few tacks (into the wood) to position the piping before offering up the end of the front interior quarter panel. Then offer up the interior panel and check for any gaps between the piping and the interior panel end area. If not satisfied, withdraw the tacks and re position the piping. Use small, short tacks first as they are easier to withdraw if you want to re position the piping. Ater a bit of this and a bit of that, you should actually end up with a neat fitting job. I have seen many restored TFs where the piping has been just cut off rather than being continued upward toward the return end of the interior quarter panel. Now that does look yuk ! Cheers Rob Grantham TF3719("Aramis"),TF9177("Athos"). |

Is this what you're looking for? Remove the stitches to cut the piping so it is up against the corner of the scuttle. Leave excess vinyl from the piping so you can fold and tuck behind the front kick panel. Picture of my car and another from another board member which I believe is Matthew's.
I'll try to explain the fold so its nice just like it in the pictures from my old piping I saved. Fold at a 45 degree angle at the corner of the piping, and then another 45 degree fold again. Frank TF1414 |
