MG TD TF 1500 - TF oil filter adapter filter
What is the correct filter to use with a spin on oil filter adapter? I'm not a Fram fan. Any others? Dan H. |

Hi Dan, Until this year, I was never a fan of the Fram 3600 filter - cheap and with no back-flow valve. I have been using the K&N HP2009 that I was buying from Autozone for about $11 + change. But this year, the price went up to $15 and so I decided to look for an alternative. Our local Porsche club is reccommending the Fram XG3600 - a new filter designed to compete with the K&N. They bought one and opened it up and found that the filter area is 40% greateer than the 3600. I bought one and it is of noticably better quality including a back-flow valve. I think I paid abt. $8.50 at Wal-Mart. So far - so good ... haven't run the crank bearings - yet! Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué. |

I use the NAPA 1515 (Wix 21515), and am very satisfied with it. Relatively inexpensive (they have an annual 50%-off sale so I stock up), and easily available. Tom Lange MGT Repair |

It's a very common Ford filter, NAPA 1516 will also fit. A good auto parts store should be able to cross-reference it so that you can use a Ford OEM filter if you wish. |

NAPA 1516 and as David said..it's a common Ford filter. Makes it very easy to add a thermostatic adapter plate for adding an oil cooler if you are inclined to do so. |

Thanks guys, I assume the NAPAs have the back flow valve. |

The adapter for an oil cooler that fits a horizontal oil filter is Hayden 205 (Pep Boys SKU # 8050670 ($29.25 in 3/12/98). It comes from a Ford Taurus, more I can't tell you. It has always worked well for me. Cheers, Bob |
