MG TD TF 1500 - TF questions
I have a black TF 1500. My questions are: Where is the turn signal flasher can located? Is it on the engine side of the firewall, or tucked down inside under the dashboard by the toeboard like on the TD. I know the relay box is on the outside of the firewall. Also, on a black car, is the engine side of the firewall supposed to be body color, or flat black. I am assuming it is supposed to be the same black as the rest of the car, but I have seen both. I perfer the look of the flat black against the glossy body color just for the contrast. I am going to start shooting paint tomorrow. Thanks in advance |

The attached pic will show you the flasher location. Body paint for the firewall (all sprayed together at the bodyworks). You may want to consider upholstery colour under the scuttle and crash rail as done originally too. Cheers, Matthew. |

Hi Matthew, Not seen that 'Terry' clip used here before! Doesn't the fasher normally have an L bracket riveted to the end, for fastening with a nut and bolt? Cheers, John |

Mine is mounted the same way. PJ |

Good point John, not sure if that clip is a vairiation or something aftermarket. Did not see it listed in the Service Parts List. Paul, which same way is yours mounted? Cheers, Matthew. |

My two have the same clip in the same place. Tom |

On my TF 1500 #8986 the flasher is monterd by a 1/4 BSF thru the angle bracket on the flasher... NO clip |
Don Harmer |
Matthew, If it's any help, the Lucas flasher was available without an angle bracket, presumably for other cars? I can only think that someone got one of these (or a pattern) and used a Terry clip! Cheers John |

Hi All, I have never seen a 'Terry' clip holding the Lucas Flasher can on TF's. However, anything is possible! If you look at the Brooklands Books publication of the mgtf,an overhead photo taken in the article 'Tuning The MG',by Sports Cars Illustrated in 1955(of the TF Engine bay)you will see that a Terry clip is NOT used to affix the Flasher to the side of the Tool Box.Interesting. Cheers for now. Rob Grantham TF3719("Aramis"),TF9177("Athos"). |

Hi again, I have just noticed in the photos that the clip on Matt M's TF and Paul's TF are different!Hmmm... Rob Grantham TF3719("Aramis"),TF9177("Athos"). |

Thanks everyone, I will call that aftermaket then. Cheers, Matthew. |

Mine is like Don's, monterd by a 1/4 BSF thru the angle bracket on the flasher and side of tool box. It has been replaced now and has "spade" terminals instead of "ring" that were on there before. New flasher did not have screw terminals ...and old connectors were pretty nasty as a recall. Noticed Matt's and Pauls are different connectors as well. Matt's look like what I had before I changed them out. |

On my TF-1500 (7157) the flasher is mounted almost identical to Paul's. I didn't know that clip is called a "Terry" clip. Cheers - Dennis |

Dennis et al, Terry and Son's were based in Redditch, nr Birmingham in England, and specialised in making all types of springs, as did other firms in the locality, some of whom also made sewing needles etc. The flasher 'clips' were called Terry clips, rather like vacuum cleaners were called Hoovers! These clips were often used for fastening round-handled tools to a workshop wall, for easy access. More useles info from the 'old country'! Cheers John |

Mine is mountd the same as Don Harmers, with screw intergrated with the flasher. |
