MG TD TF 1500 - TF Questions
Hello, Lokking for a MG TF wiper motor along with the cable. I have the wiper boxes. I am rebuilding my Dad's 1955 MG TF and want to give it to him for Christmas. Need lots of help. Thanks, Mike |

Help him out if you can guys. I told Mike you were a good bunch. On a side note Mike, there a a few items on the TF that are a little hard to come by due to there limited production. The wiper system is one of them but you do have two of the hardest pieces to come by with the wheel boxes. If you can't come up with a TF wiper motor you can substitute a midget motor if originality doesn't matter but you still need to come up with the cable. |

G/day Mike There was someone selling a wiper motor in the classifieds of a Mg Club in Aus. If you want me to ascertain if it is still available contact me. Graeme |

Unfortunately the guy needs a core for that price. Since I do not have a core to give him the price is $200 more. |

Hi Mike, I can't help you dirctly, but the basic CRT Lucas wiper was in fact very common on UK cars in the early to mid 50s, eg Morris Minors, and although the wiper boxes are different on the TF, other boxes can be adapted by altering the shafts. As long as the motor is the same main CRT type, don't worry too much about the subsequent part nos. - they mainly refer to the different wiper blade sweep angles available for different cars - not usually critical, but again the gear wheel can be adapted to the TF sweep. See Archives for more detailed info. Hope this helps, John |

The wiper motor on the MGA is identical, the the outer cable may be a little shorter-- not sure. But I think both the inner and outer cable will work on a TF. |

Not true David. I had several MGA motors here just a while back. Bolt pattern may be the same but they are different including the sweep. Cables on the TF are unique in size while the MGA Midget and B are different only in length. Here are a picture of the gears from a TF MGA and B. NoT sure of the exact number of degrees on the TF but I'm not using a Midget with a 105 degree wheel and it is slightly longer than a stock throw. The MGA is 120 degrees and the B is 125 degrees.

The wipersystem on the TF is very similar to the Y-type. As most of them were cannibalised by you T-typers, maybe somebody has the parts needed without knowing? |

TF motor. In addition to the gearing arrangement being different along with a different size cable, the TF has a unique flex cable sheath where as the MGA uses hard steel tubing. The actual electric motors may be interchangeable.
