MG TD TF 1500 - TF Seat Upholstry

My TF seats had the typical black vinyl re-upholstery job from the 70,s I am now ready to start the correct upholstery with a Moss kit. As I dismantled the seats, I found fairly large amounts of cotton batting stuffed in various places, especially the seat back (see image). Was this the way it was done at Abingdon or was this added by the upholstery shop in the 70's?
Has anyone photos of original seats showing the fitment as done at the factory? I will be using modern materials as much as possible, but would like to do the installation as close to original as possible. Regards, John

Looks as original to me with the sacking tubes down the side. The wadding was used to get a good roll on the top of the seat.

Looks just like the original underlayment in my TF seats did. Looks like the material is in pretty good shape, I re-used the original materials but had to add some cotton batting to account for settling and the fact that the new Moss covers were not stuffed with cotton batting between the pleats like the originals were. If the original foam rube on seat bottomis in decent shape there is some good advice in the archives about adding foam to the cavities under the original foam rubber to add some support. The original real foam rubber is superior to the new stuff if it has survived.

My seats, which were reupholstered some time ago (like, decades) had a lot of that cotton material stuffed into them in various ways. I just assumed it was used to shape the seats or take out wrinkles. The back had some cotton between the spring assembly and the backing board, I assume to prevent rattles.

I just did what I thought made sense. No one is going to see inside the seats.

I've saved your link S Maas. Some very useful pics & info including your departures from the original factory approach. Cheers

The use of high density foam which will be totally hidden from view will "save your back".
