MG TD TF 1500 - TF/serial # question
Greetings from the nations oldest city. I have purchased a 1954 mgtf with the tf1500 badge on the sides of the hood. The id tag is as follows-Car #HDC46/5425 ,Engine#-XPAG/TF35203. Question - were mid production TF's badged as 1500 even thou it came with the 1250 motor. We have a 1949 mgyt and a 1959 mga |

If the engine number is an XPAG, it should be a 1250... the 1500's should have an XPEG prefix? |

If you goto www.Ttalk.info which is Bud's website and click on car list you will see where the TF was made in the 1500 and 1250 cc configuration during 1954. Perhaps your car is on the list. |

You'll find quite a few TF 1250's mistagged with the 1500 badges. The PO of my 54 TF rebored the engine to increase power and put the 1500 badges on the bonnet sides. SEAMUS |

The first TF 1500 was TF 6501, built in July 1954. TF 1250s and TF 1500s were built alternately in batches of 100's until September 1954 when TF 6950 was the last TF built with the XPAG engine. ( About 191 TF 1250's with chassis numbers between 6501 and 6950 were built) Got to www.Tregister.org/register and view the Factory Record for your car on the MG Car Club T Register web site. This shows the original engine number and build date. |

Ron - According to the production records in the MG Car Club T Register http://www.tregister.org/factoryrecords.aspx Your car was produced as a 1250. See picture below. Cheers - Dave

The positive thing is that your engine is the correct one for the car- assuming the number on your left front chassis rail matches the ID plate. Have fun with your TF! |
