MG TD TF 1500 - TF Spin-On Oil Filter & Spark Plugs
Hello folks, My TF 1500 engine reassembly is coming along, but need to find out what spin-on oil filter to use with the Moss spin-on adapter. A Fram 3600? Archives also mentioned a Fram TG 3600. How about long-reach spark plugs for a TF? Archives mentioned the Champion N5C. Thanks again for help. Tyler |

Tyler, I believe it was a Fram 3600. I use NAPA so I'll get you that number tommorow and you can use it for a cross reference. I believe I also have the N5C in my TF. LaVerne |

FWIW.... I have a Fram PH3600 installed. Alternates that fit are: NAPA 1516, AC PF56, Lee LF400, Purolator L20089 or L20195, Wix 51516, Motorcraft FL400S Others may want to weigh in on other alternatives and which ones(s)are best (better) to use, but here at least are some to choose from. I have Autolite 404 plugs installed and my notes indicate they are equivalent to the NC5's. I can't recall if they are considered "long reach" or not Cheers, Jim |

And if you really want to read up on oil filters, here's an update on an oil filter study that was described in the TD-TF archives. http://www.knizefamily.net/minimopar/oilfilters/index.html If you want to jump to the "Opinions and Recommendations" section, go here: http://www.knizefamily.net/minimopar/oilfilters/opinions.html I can not speak to the accuracy or impartiality of this study. Jim is correct with the filter numbers. As for the spark plugs, the only warning I have concerns Autolite's. Recently changed out 6 plugs in a fork lift and asked for the same part # Autolites. When I went to gap the plugs I noticed that on half of them that the arm did not reach fully over the electrode. Also on 4 of the six the arm was spotted into the leading edge of the threads which would easily ruin an alloy head and possibly cast iron. I sent them back and used some NGK's. Total world of difference in appearence. LaVerne |

Bad rap for Fram on that oil filter read. La Verne: what's the NGK # for 1500 plugs? thanks, Tyler |

Tyler, I Don't know as I have Champions in the TF but just give the Champion number to your NAPA or Auto Zone, Checkers etc and they should be able to cross reference it for you. I do have the NGK's in my B. By the way I forgot to mention that the Auto Lite plugs were made where??? Yep thats right...... China. LaVerne |

Larry's references are the only all-inclusive survey I've been able to find. True, it may not be scientific, but if there are others, I certainly can't find them. As for the Fram PH3600, I'm afraid that its a cheap filter, and even the guys at Advance and NAPA will be the first to say so. So I play it safe. I'm using Bob Grunau's filter adapter on my TF and the K&N HP2009 at about $13 compared to the Fram PH3600 at about $4 at WalMart ...There's got to be some justification!! NKG nbr. for the XPEG is BP6ES. Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué. |

NAPA Gold #1516...filter is made by WIX... |

Actually, the NAPA and Wix filters are made by Gard Corp. of Gastonia, North Carolina. I have Bob Grunau's adapter (see http://www.ttalk.info/Oil_filter.htm). I use the NAPA 1515 filter. It's like a 1516 on steroids. A snug fit, but I like the extra filtration. FYI, I also use NGK BP6ES plugs. |

I use a store brand from Advance Auto because it's virtually the same color as the block. Ya I know, that's not the right reason to select a filter. But they are inexpensive, I replace them frequently, and I don't put that many miles on the car. Not too different in appearance from the original canister if you're not looking for it.
