MG TD TF 1500 - TF Steering ColumnPhotos
Tried to assemble the interior TF steering column parts (the chrome pieces) today, but I have no good reference for placement (position) of parts. I could sure use a couple of good photos that show this detail. For instance, does the chrome clamp assembly (263-320) (photo)butt up to the end of the outer steering tube as pictured? Which way does the chrome spring cover cap (262-240) go on: concave down or concave up? thanks, Tyler |

Here's a photo of the chrome spring cover cap on the splined adjusting shaft, concave side is up, and butted up against the inner tube. Is this position correct? Doesn't seen quite right to me. Please let me know. thanks, Tyler |

The clamp needs to be almost even with the end of the inner column. The oval groove across the pinch slot is for the shaft of the pinch bolt to pass through. There should be an oblong metal key on the opposite side that keeps the shaft from pulling totally out. If the 3 bolt coupling is attached and tightened (ie the inner column is fixed in place), you will need to slide the outer column outward about 2". Hope that makes sense. George |

Yes, the spring cap is correct I think. |

The spring cap is correct, cup side toward steering wheel. But, the coiled spring goes above the spring cap. The spring cap masks the large diameter end of the spring. The part sequence is shown on Page J.2 of the WSM. Bud |

Great information. I've got it done. Thanks George and Bud! Tyler |
