MG TD TF 1500 - TF's Custom s/s exhaust now done!
Hi all. Finally got the TF's custom s/s exhaust back today, and its great! As the donor engines manifold was on the coffect side it was a straightforward build to have it look the part. Just got to get the clamps and hangars,do the final bolt up and see how it sounds. |

Its a 4" diameter,24" long box with 2" diameter pipework. ps,1st post,,,Coffect should read correct!! |
Pilkie |
Its made of marine grade s/s. Just a few welds to polish down now its finished. |

A real work of art, looking great! Are you going to paint the floorboards to proved moisture protection? |
Jim Merz |
Floorboards will get removed and treated prior to final fitting of trim. |

How sweet it is Pilkie. Nicely finished for a quite stunning look. John '54 TF 0781 "Meeker" |

Very nice! BTW : I think I would swap the manifold stud bolts out for brass though. Just been my experance over the years rhat once "heated-in" bras so much easier to remove wirhout damage to the studs. |

So true David. Those were what was to hand and fitted erfect, they are s/s and quite a coarse thread. Ive used that type on 1 manifold I had to drill out on my V8 rover daily driver for the last 12yrs and have not had then seize. |

Pilkie, You do nice work. Mort |

Thank you,I try my best! I have great respect for all those who have the time, and dedication to persue a concourse finish mostly by themselves with all its frustrations, without the need to pay an expert restorer mega bucks,to do it all for them!. Some of those who have seen it have said that it is concourse! But they are not really into classic cars, and there is a huge difference between the finishes of excellent, exceptional, and concourse or concourse original in a show judges or fellow enthusiasts eyes! The only jobs I pay to get done on my cars are any engine/box etc, machine work, and the paint job. My TR6 took me 3 months to do and is by no means concourse in my eyes! It has won best of show, sports car of show, best 1970's car at various events, and a gold in the annual TR International arena! I was very pleased at the show shown in the pic,as it won best sports car, beating the red gorgeous E-type in the background," I voted for that",and it also got best of show as well!! All votes for cars were placed by the other 500 classic car owners attending! |

very nice pilkie!!!!!!! Is it a straight 2 inch exit under the bumper also???? SPW |
STEVE WINCZE |
Hi Steve. Yep 2" goes straight out the back. Once the bumper is fitted,I will fit a mirror chrome tailpipe to the correct lenght. |
Pilkie |
The end of your stainless pipe should polish up real nice,,,, no need for a chrome piece and another clamp.. SPW |
STEVE WINCZE |
I asked bill the maker about that! ""Its very hard to polish this type of marine grade s/s! Its the type of stuff used on ships and shopping centers for stairway handrails."" I may give it a go and see,but its far easier to get a 6" long bit of s/s mirror polished. |
Pilkie |
All connected up,and sounds great! To be honest,I havent heard a TF in the flesh, nor a 1970's MG midget1500,so I dont really know how it should sound! But its got a bit of a burble and a nice sporty note. When I have fitted the radiator, and can have it running longer,I will do a short video of the sound. |
