MG TD TF 1500 - The art market and classic cars
20 odd years ago, an enormous boom in the prices of classic cars was attributed as an adjunct to the then soaring art market when pictures, such as Van Gogh's "Sunflowers", sold for somewhere around US$80,000,000. (The bubble subsequently burst and prices of all such articles fell from their peaks by up to 60%). In view of the astonishing prices paid for objet d'art from the late Yves St. Laurent's collection, many times greater than estimated, what are the contributors-to- this-list's thoughts about a rub off effect on our little gems? Might this be the start of a resurgence of interest in tangible articles, such as classic cars, rather than the speculative joys of amorphous stock markets? |

Interesting thought, Geoff. Our cars are great fun, but will the idle rich really be attracted to machines that were once called "cheap and cheerfull"? |

Hi Geoff, Hmmm,I have just perused MG enthusiast and retailer Barry Walker's(UK) web site and an mgtf1500 listed(with photos under 'Cars For Sale') has been sold lately for 35 POUNDS ! Looks to be a reasonable restoration standard. Values on TDs and TFs I suspect are really irrelevant to the majority of true 'vintage' MG lovers. However, unlike the Stock Market, they don't disappear into dust over night !! Cheers for now. If I had bought a warehouse(a small one)full of T-Types instead of Mutual Funds I would be sleeping a lot better lately. Even if they went down in value they are still MG's and I would still smile every time I looked at them. I'm not smiling at my brokerage statments. Paul |
