MG TD TF 1500 - The Taming Of Ethanol??
Hope this is in the right place. Sta-Bil has developed a product to help relieve the devastating effects ethanol has on marine fuel tanks and other incompatible marine equipment it may touch. They say it can be used in almost everything. Why wouldn't this product be right for our old cars fuel systems where ethanol has the same effects on older fuel lines, fuel pumps, carburetter gaskets and some seals? A small container will treat a lot of gas. PJ |

I just bought a bottle at Walmart Paul and plan to use it in the cars and the boat...I've been using the regular StaBil for years with good results. Terry in Oakland |

Paul, Absolutely, marine Sta-bil is great. Also the Star-Brite ethanol additive called Star-Tron. Cheers, Jim |

I have read several places a movement is underway to allow up to 15% Ethanol in gas. Hope that doesn't happen to us. |

Actually, I think its quite do-able for any old English car. The most vulnerable are this rubber and synthetic rubber gaskets in the fuel delivery system. If you are using the original set-up:- All gaskets in/on the gas tank All gaskets and packings in the SUs. It doesn't seem that hard to assemble a set of replacement gaskets in Viton or Buna N that would be impervious to Methanol, but I must admit that 15% seems daunting! If Methanol were collected uniquely from rotting garbage (biogas), I can see the economics to producing Methanol. But around here, the farmers are all growing corn and the amount of energy they need to produce corn, places the economics and the total energy in the process, in question.
