MG TD TF 1500 - Tonneau Bars on a TF seats
How does the tonneau bars mount on the back of a TF seat? Are there caged nuts on the inside? My bars don't exist as they were not on the car when I bought it, so I have no idea if the mountings are there, but when I recover the seats, I want them set up to mount the bars later. Drawings, measurements or what ever help you can give would be deeply appreciated. PJ |

If memory serves me, they are Phillips head screws (pan head?), screwed directly into the seat back. The top of the wire is just below the top of the seat back. On my green seats the wire and screws were painted green to match. Tom Lange MGT Repair |

Thanks Tom, John Mahone said his uses a sheet metal type screw, is yours the same or does yours use std threads? PJ |

Paul its just a pan head wood screw. When you remove the existing seat back material you should see evidence of where they were fixed. You'll neeed four screws for each touneau bar. Dan H. |

Ahh, very good! Now I know what to look for. Thanks |

Somewhat of a debate over the correct color; mine are a tan that match the top bows. And of course I think that's right. |

Not much Paul, but you get the idea here.

I'm following this as mine are non existent and the seats were stripped already. Laverne, is your dash painted or covered? Mine is covered but I don't like it. |

Thats what it looked like when I brought it home. It was covered in some heavy vinyl..ughh. Looks like this now.

LaVerne, Did you make the console box? Looks great! Does it interfere with the E brake? Looks like it's a little forward to comfortably grab the handle. PJ |

David, I had not heard of that debate- I thought the bars were painted the upholstery color. James |

Paul, depending on how tight I set the hand brake it might raise the cup holder. Kind of a compromise to get two cup holders and the nasty ash tray us smokers use, but needed accessories for a long distance cruiser. Made two..both walnut, one for the TF and one for the TD. Just a tight slip in fit and removable for cleaning or shows if you like. Left the octagon trim rings off as they seemed a bit much. James, yes they should be the color of the upholstry. |

Nothing real fancy.

More long distance accessories...again in walnut. ports for GPS and cell phone.

And the glove box doors keep stuff from walking away and a great place to mount the GPS.

James, You are right. Tonneau bars do in fact, match seat upholstry colour. Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué. |
