MG TD TF 1500 - Tonneau Bars on TF seats
Hello, are the little 'towel bars' on the back of the TF seats supposed to be painted or chromed? I've seen them both ways at shows, and the ones current on my seats are chrome plated (plating is in poor shape). I think I have read that they should be painted the same color as the hood frame, but I can't find where I read it. This info doesn't appear to be on the 'Original TF' finished page, unless I missed it. http://www.mgcars.org.uk/mgtf/mgtf_finishes.htm Thanks in advance, MB |

D'ohhh! I apologize. Upon rereading the page, it says that the tonneau bars should be the same color as the interior. Green it is!!! Now I just have to strip off the crummy chrome on the bars. |

So what are they really for? Can you stuff the tonneau cover between them and the seatback? For looks? Mine are chrome so I guess I'll have to have them stripped. |

The T series cars originally came with only a half tonneau that only covered the boot area of the car. They had straps that went over the bar and down to some snaps on the vertical bulkhead behind the seats. Cheers - Dave |

The tonneau bars are for the half tonneau as David says. On both my TF's there are "Lift-the-Dot" fasteners on the back of the seats to hold down the front of the half tonneau, rather than on the vertical bulkhead. One TF has chrome finish, the other tan painted, (same as the top frame) tonneau bars. my interior was red on both. |

My tonneau has four 3/4" wide elastic straps holding the Lift- the -Dot faseners to the back of the seats. |
