MG TD TF 1500 - Too good to be true
Currently on the Pre War Cars .com site is a TD with 18K miles, supposedly parked in 1955. Looks the part. Unfortunately you need to go to Scandanavia, although the ad says they will deliver. Paul |

Without a doubt, Paul is right - a very nice TD. I will never again boast about my TF being original. Just have a look at this one ... In Norway http://www.prewarcar.com/postwarclassic/classifieds/ad55980.html To quote the ad " ... An original unrestoerd car that has been unused since 1955. No rust or rot. Runs very good ('well', please). A very good candidate to keep as is, and not restore. It will be difficult to find one better. Only 18207 miles! Will deliver." Thanks Paul for bringing this one to light. Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué. |

Interesting that for having been put away in 1955, it somehow got black side curtains....? |

Interesting ..anybody notice the gas tank? I thought those were painted at factory. (or is that just on a TF?) steering wheel looks a bit "odd" (as in noty quite round). I would love to see lots of pictures of this one! |

Notice the head lights, all chrome, that was not available until the 1953 model. Yes, David the end panels on the gas tank were painted at the factory with chrome edges. I wonder what the engine looks like. Louis |

....also not the original tires on the front.... looks to be on the spare and rear? |

Lewis, my 1951 TD has the original Chrome headlights with the King of the Road Emblem. The factory used what was available for many years when producing these cars. There never was a chrome insert for the grille as far as I know, but the headlamp buckets being chrome was quite common on some early cars. |

I'm no expert and would have to see some better resolution pics...but that was a hard 2/3 years and 18k miles! It would take some pretty convincing documentation for me to believe the claims made on this one. Just from saving the pic's and looking a bit closer there apears to be a lot wrong with this one. Headlights (paint on mount brackets?) Grill slats Tank paint Door hindges paint? Steering wheel Carpet pretty tore up. (would love to see how "worn" it is by the gas pedal...if you know what I mean) I would wager the engine bay looks more like 118XXX miles. |

Tom: I am sure you maybe correct. I have a lot of original items on my 1952 TD and some don't match. My side currtain frames are not the same on the left side and the right side. If I hold them next to each other they do not match. I have watched the video of how they made the cars and I am surprised that any two are the same. Enjoy the ride, and be glad that we are keeping them for our grandchildren. Louis |

Louis, me to. There are a lot of idosycracies on these little cars, but I do love mine. It is going to one of my nephews when I am no longer here. I hope he enjoys it as much as I have, broken cranks and all. |

Chrome headlights were on the earlier TD's Mine have them and it is a late 1950. Wiper is on the side, so 52 could be correct. No ID information, but I thought the MKII had chrome grill slats? Could it be? I do agree on the steering wheel. It has a leather wrap on it and appears to be rough around the edges sticking out of the leather. This again could be due to the years of sitting. It may have had the leather wrap added for the sale. I note a radio antenna on the back. Piping around the dash is rough, but then the car is supposed to have been setting for some time. |

...wonder what the plaque on the glove box says.... |
