MG TD TF 1500 - Top Washers
We are having a discussion on if the factory put fabric washers under the brass washers that hold the top on to the rear wood. I looked through Chris's original photos, but could not find a definitive picture on if these were added by the factory, or just put on tops when they were replaced. Pictures show with and without fabric washer. If any of you have pictures of the washers on an original top, I would be interested in seeing them. |

The Original MG TF midget site show photos of late TF 9052. I blew the pic up and it does not appear to have anything under the brass washers but does have Phillips screws. Ray TF 2884 |

Here is a close up of TD10941's top screw. |

Regarding the rear most bow (the screws that attach the top to the bow), I assumed the screws are hidden underneath the trailing flap of the top. However, in the above photo, they look to be on the top...exposed to the elements. In another recent post (Top Window), the screws are not exposed. There were some older photos included (circa 1950's) but those were not that clear, so I could not tell which installation is correct. Jim |

Jim. A discussion we had in another thread and is somewhat still unresolved.
We definitely have pictures of MGs with factory tops that have the screw and washer on the outside, but there are others where it does not seem to be on the outside. Seems interesting to me that, as you said, there is a flap there, so why was the screw and washer on the outside? A friend who runs a well regarded upholstery shop and does a lot of MGs (he also owns a few). Says he has only seen them under the flap So I chalk it up to either way may be correct. |
