MG TD TF 1500 - TOTALLY GOBSMACKED!!

Hi all.

I attended the Wheelnuts Classic car show at St Roses school in the Cotswold town of Stroud,Gloucestershire,UK with the mgtf1500 today.
An annual show at a special school I attend every year as its for a good cause.
The MG attracted lots of admiring onlookers at its 1st proper outing/show since I finished the resto!
Also had a couple of people interested in buying it.
Had plenty of kids sitting in it having their pics taken by mum and dad.
Some onlookers couldnt believe I was letting them,or anyone for that matter sit in it!
There were some great looking, TR's,4,5,6's, MGB's,MGT's,MGA's,E-types,USA muscle sports,
Daimler Darts,,,in fact all sorts, even a steam powered car!!!
To end the day on a high,I was really chuffed,as it was awarded,Best sports car in show!

Pilkie

Congratulations! It is always nice when something like comes out of the clear blue when least expected. in this case though, I would say that your car was well deserving of the trophy. Cheers - Dave

" plenty of kids sitting in it having their pics taken"...
Bravo!
I have actually been asked to "leave" a few shows for doing this.
IMHO: Nothing like the look on a little one's face standing on the seat, wheel in hand, after being told all day "don't touch".
"Stickey" wipes off with a wet rag....the "smile" last a lot longer!
I was 3yrs old when M.G. first put a smile on my face...never forgot that.

I was 8 when my uncle showed up at Granddad's farm with his TD - Wanted on ever since. 60 years later I have TD25009 and am loving it. Yes, beautifully said - smears wipe away, smiles last a lifetime.

We must remember and relise that those KIDS of today could and most likely become the future owners of our beloved MG's.
Lets tell those GRUMPIES to keep their cars at home because they certainly do not enjoy them to the fullest.
BRING ON THE KIDS.

Dave S,

I'm totally with you on the sitting in it. I often do this (though not usually at shows as I'd rather be driving it) when I'm out and about. I was at Home Depot one day and there was this couple that must have been in there mid 20s standing at the TF taking cell phone pictures. It was a warm day and the lady was dressed in a patterned blue dress and the fellow in a pair of slacks and a small fedora. They just looked the part! I told them that the photo would look better if they were sitting in the car. The were surprised and asked "are you sure?" etc... I took a couple shots of them in the car. My guess is that they will likely share that story with a number of others along with sharing the photo.

I'm a bit of a youngster in the T series crowd at 37 and am concerned that there won't be any caretakers out there. A lot of the people in my T club here are just too inflexible to even get in their cars let alone drive them anymore. The part that's sadder still is that their kids or grandkids don't want the car. It feels to me that this group on the board is rather active in driving their machines, but it is PARAMOUNT that these cars get out and about for people to see and experience. With out that, they will not survive.

Alex

PS: Congrats Pilkie on your win! Your car is very tidy and is worthy of the honor bestowed upon it.

Drive'em... ride'em!
Not always just the "little folks", sometimes an M.G. can bring a smile to someone that really needs a smile.
My dear friend Dan doesn't smile as much since comming down with ALS.
Think he looks pretty happy here!
We had a great time ...and we will do it again this year.

I love driving the TD anywhere even if it's just the 10 mile loop through the foothills used for warm ups. I love it even more with anybody from 5 to 85 who enjoys the ride with me. Bring 'em on !! Gas is cheap and the TD doesn't use much.

David,

That is such a neat teaching story!

At 72, I still teach teens in our Church youth group, and intend to give a few of them a ride on a nice winding road this summer.

It is almost two years ago, that my friend Rod Murray and I were on our way to the MG meeting in Reno Nevada. We stopped to get a morning coffee at a gas station and restaurant somewhere in southern Idaho. While sitting inside having our coffee, a lady walked over to the TD and had a good look at it . She brought out her camera and took some pictures. I walk out to talk to her, and found out her father had one a long time ago, and used to take her and her little brother for rides on special days. I suggested she get in the car, and I would take her picture behind the wheel. She was thrilled, and after the picture taking, she sat in the car for a long time. I could tell she was remembering a time long ago. When she finally got out, there were tears in her eyes, so the memories must have been good ones. She thanked me very much, and said she was going to send a copy of the picture to her brother. Things like that can make your day.

I am sure "gobsmacked" equates to flabergasted on this side of the pond. If it doesn't please let me know.
