MG TD TF 1500 - Trip Meter Gear
Does anyone have a Trip Meter Gear or Odometer Gear (they look identical) with all its teeth that they would be willing to part with? Since there is no fuel gauge on the TF the Trip Meter would be nice, but mine has some worn teeth and it doesn't work. On another note, I did my first show last Saturday and was pleasently surprised to win "Best of Show, Import/Stock", and I was competing against some real nice cars. Check out the picture below, I still am looking for a place to display the trophy! Sincerely, Dave B. |

Dave, How did you manage to get it home???? Hopefully you had an empty passenger seat!! . If height is an issue trying to find a place to display it, you can always remove the 2nd and 3rd stage pillars, and reattach the top gold pieces to the top of the first stage,,, . Are you going to be at the Long Branch NJ G.O.F. in Sept???? SPW |

Steve, I took it apart to get it home. I think you have a good idea about shortening it to a reasonable height for display. Not sure yet about Long Branch. Do you know the date and location? Sincerely, Dave B. |

Dave, It's at the Ocean Place Resort, on the beach,, starting Sept 26th and ending (leaving for home) Sunday Sept 30th,,The place has a nice three level ABOVE ground concrete garage,,,, . INFO at this link http://www.nemgtr.org/index.php?option=com_rsevents&view=events&layout=show&cid=75:gof-mk92&Itemid=179 The "unrestored SURVIVORS" should be interesting to see !! . . SPW |

On seeing your impressive throphy, I hope you don't mind that my first thought was 'only in America....'. Shortening it for display would be a shame, I'd give it pride of place in the garage. |

Congratulations, Dave! See, you didn't need that shiny new steering wheel to win a trophy after all! Beautiful car... |

David, I think the steering wheel helped since the original one is pretty nasty, and I sure felt more secure driving 200 miles with all the spokes intact. By the way, do you have a spare Trip Meter or Odometer Gear? Thanks again! Dave B. |
DW Burdette |
Sorry, no spare such gear. However, I think I remember seeing something about repairing them using epoxy. Check out the mgaguru.com website, it might be there somewhere. |

Dave, Try to make it to the GOF. This will be my first. I know it starts on the 26th but I will be there the 27th to the 30th. Mort |

David L. I will check out the site and I was thinking epoxy may be the ticket if i can't locate a new gear. Thanks! Steve & Mort, I checked out the GOF site and it looks like something really special. I will try to attend at least Saturday. Sincerely, Dave B. |

Dave B The suggestion of using Epoxy & RTV is a good one. I have used this effectively in making teeth for wooden works clocks. Disasemble everything so that you have the gear in your hand. put the gear into the bottom of a small flat container (match box sixe) then pour the RTV into the container then let the rtv set. Remove the gear and play with the mold, with a very sharp knife to get the shape that you want. Next mix some Epoxy (JBWeld) and coat the teeth of the thoroughly cleaned gear and reinsert it back into the mold. The JBW will now conform to the shape of your mold. Let things set completely then pull the geaar away from the RTV and clean up your teeth with a jewelers file. Regards Rod Murray |
