MG TD TF 1500 - Trunnion thread size
Does anyone know the thread pattern for cutting trunnions to fit a standard leg? It seems to be a square thread rather than a 55-60 degree thread. Any suggestions welcomed since I need some one-off trunnions produced. It seems that the same profile was used on several Morris, MG, Wolseley etc vehicles. Thanks Rob |

Rob,
We had a similar discussion regarding Morris Minor kingpin and trunnion threads a while back. Read through this before you proceed: https://www.mmoc.org.uk/Messageboard/viewtopic.php?t=65853 I would suggest contacting John (rcoates@tracytools.com)at Tracy tools in the UK regarding the taps and dies as suggested by "Philthehill" in that discussion. They are very helpful and have helped me identify obscure threads e.g. master cylinder rear blanking plug, in the past. They also have nearly everything on stock and their postage is very reasonable (a rarity in UK!) Regards Declan |

Thanks Declan. I'll now try the Wolseley 4/44 and Morris MO legs to see what profiles they have and see if they match any UNS sizes etc. The next thing will be to find photos and dimensions for the TD/TF/MGA etc. Does anyone know if the MGA or MGB front hubs can be fitted to the Morris MO suspension? Morris MO is 13/16 x 11. I got the .815 (13/16) by measuring the hole in the trunnion just where the threads start but the male threads on the leg are .780, suggesting that .035 of thread peak has been machined away. I'll keep posting updates on the MMOC site, Declan. Cheers Rob |
