MG TD TF 1500 - Tublar front shocks for the TD/TF?
I just got an e-advert from Moss with some info on a tublar shock conversion kit for the MGB. Seems quite simple. ... just musing if this same kit would fit the TD/TF? |

This is a bit off topic, but my car had the Moss rear shock conversion kit on it, with Konis. I like it, it drives and corners very well. Has a good solid feel. I have never had very good luck with lever shocks lasting, but my previous experience was on the east coast with more humidity. That being said, the fronts are still levers and working fine. I have never seen a front end conversion on a T series car. |

Thanks for your comments Larry. You are the first person I've ever encountered that has the rear Koni set-up. B&G also make front tube shock conversion and it, like the Moss kit, is in the $400+ range. Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué. |

My car (TF) had an awful tube shock conversion when I got it. The worst part about it was the ugly brackets welded to the frame, and the small sections that were cut out of the cowl to provide clearance for the brackets. The original shocks were still on (as they provide the upper A-arms) but drained of fluid (or maybe it just all leaked out). I removed and ground off the brackets and reverted to the original design. If you want to do a tube shock conversion for the front, be sure to check how the shocks are fastened. One end of each shock is fastened to the lower A-arm, and the other to some fixed point, which is typically some sort of bracket. I believe for the MGB kit, there is a bracket that bolts up under the shock. This may or may not fit a T-Series car. Anything that involves permanent modifications to the car, I would stay away from. |
