MG TD TF 1500 - Ugly stick

I understand that this is an important (and pricey) racing car with a great deal of significant history, but it must be the least attractive special I have ever seen in my entire life: eBaY 150956186599

It looks like an MGA that was in a serious accident, was extensively repaired by someone who didn't know what an A looked like, who was 7 feet tall and added a hardtop to be able to drive in the rain.

No offense intended.

That was on another site and it didn't receive high marks there either. Looks like it was made for a 7 footer! Yup, I agree, it ain't the prettiest thing I've ever seen either. 99Gs? Gotta be sick to pay that! I'd probably give, hmmmm, let's see, maybe 15, ok I'll go up to 20! PJ

Actually, to me, it looks like a hearse shortened up!

Gee Tom, You've gotta stop sugar coating and say what you really feel! :-)

I'm with Tom. Ugly. The lines fight each other. The straight, square door line is fighting with the roof line. It looks too long, narrow and tall. It needs to be put out of its misery.

Interesting. always wondered and a couple of the photos of the interieor seem to answer the question - do people driving right hand drive cars shift with their right hand and clutch with their left foot?

Supposedly built for a tall driver, but said driver's eyes would be well up in the "bubble" of the roof so I don't see how it would work. Personally I think it was built for a driver who races wearing a stovepipe hat!
Rob Edwards

Not one of Harry Lester's best designs indeed. On the other hand; if you're 6 ft 4 in tall as the ad states and sit on top of the TD's chassis plus you want a coupe roof, I guess this is were you end up...
@ J K Chapin: RHD means clutch with your left foot and shift with your left hand unless you drive a Wolseley 6/90 which is RHD but has a gearstick on the right of the drivers seat exactly as some Bentley's and I thought the Riley Pathfinder...Ah well.....

This was on BringATrailer.com last month: http://bringatrailer.com/2012/11/20/tall-guy-sportscar-1954-lester-mg-t51/

Apparently it was bought this year in England for around $32K and the guy is trying to make a quick profit.

Still ugly though.

By the way, if you're not familiar with BAT it's an interesting way to spend some time if you like cars (and may be tempted to buy something different).

...as was pointed out...RHD is exactly the same as LHD pedal wise, just shifting with left hand instead of right....

(unless, as was mentioned, in a 6/90....but it was different even with LHD)

And, OMG, that is at least right up there with the ugliest car design ever....nothing flows...above the elbow line.....oh, and ahead of the headlight line....

I notice that it is on perforated YA wheels, was racing rubber more available in 16" in the 50s/60s.

Hood looks like it came off an English Taxi.

The fact that you're shifting with the left hand is not the only strange attribute of a RHD car for me but looking for the rear-view mirror is an other.
