MG TD TF 1500 - Underside of Dash
Does anyone know of a solution to the repair or replacement of the fiberboard panel under the dash. The edge of mine for my 1951 MGTD has gotten warn especially near the steering wheel. Is there a replacement available? I have searched Moss' catalogue. Is there available replacement edge material to fix it up? Thank you, Denis Johnson |

Does anyone know the correct resistance of the ignition coil for a 53-TD? I have just replaced the coil by a Moss part, the engine is running fine, but after 30 minutes the coil is getting very hot.Should I fix a pre-resistance? Thank You for any advice. Sam |

Denis: Most replace the underdash with one made from very thin (3/16") plywood. Then cover in black vinyl cloth. I doubt there is a way to repair yours but you could try using fiberglass mat and a thin coat of some flexible resin. Just a thought. It would have to remain somewhat flexible. BTW: If your underdash is original don't through it away. I would love it as a sample and certainly would like a picture of it when you pull it out. They are very rare (even new ones). Chris |

I would consider finding some card stock the same thickness and gluing it on if the front edge is worn off. Then add a small patch of thinner material on the back to stiffen the added repair. If you can't find material the same thickness just blue several pieces together. I've repaired cardboard boxes just by gluing with Elmer's. Frayed and floppy cardboard edges can be stiffened by brushing on slightly thinned (not more than 10%) Elmer's glue on to the edges and into the separated layers. Then cover the edge with plastic wrap and clamp using boards or many clothes pins close together to flatten the edges. You've be surprised at what can be done with just glue and card stock. Once covered with the vinyl no one will know. Blake |

Dennis: If you pull it all the way out, any chance of getting a paper tracing? Our car does not have the panel and I would like to reinstall one. However, finding one is another story. |

Dennis, I am in the same boat as John. Drawings would also help me if possible. Thanks. Bill C. |

I obtained a paper pattern years ago from http://members.optushome.com.au/inpoint/ well worth a try. |

Hello, I have an under-dash cover (well, if you mean the panel which hides the cables and so under the dash). I do not know if the shape is original, since the material is not (plain cardboard), and the PO did a very sloppy restoration in general. I am tiding up the foot well area, and I will take the cover out one of these days. I can send some pictures of it, if somebody is interested. However, please take into account that there is not the least guarantee of originality…. Regards. Jesus |

I bought one from Abingdon Spares a couple of years ago. It's their catalog # 63-85b. |

All: I have an original in so-so condition. A tracing could be provided. Blake |

I would appreciate a pattern if any one has one as my 53 TD does not have one , i did not even know that they existed before now. Thanks |

I have a feeling that a tracing would be a very popular item. I would happily pay for someones postage and time to get one. If that proves to be too much trouble, perhaps a sketch with dimensions could be emailed. That would provide a good starting point. |

It is not too difficult to make one, e.g. in plywood with black marbled vinyl glued on it. I made my own pattern so that I can easily remove it without having to dismantle anything and it is fastened by one single domed nut. Denis |
