MG TD TF 1500 - unequal front springs
Restoring 54 mgtf. Took off, sandblasted and painted front springs. As they stand side by side on the shop table I noticed that one is taller than the other. I measured the difference to be a little more than a quarter of an inch. Should I be concerned or simply put them back in? |

The workshop manual says the the free length of the coil spring is 9.59 in, +/- 1/16 in. I would see how both match up to the above spec, and put the taller one on the driver's side. If I didn't like it, they are relatively simple to replace, and I would get a new pair. warmly, dave |

Ed, here is a pair of front springs on ebay-(TD and TF are the same) You could ask the seller to measure, and even if his aren't exactly the same, you could will have four possibilities. no financial interest Dallas http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MG-TD-Set-of-front-Springs-from-a-1951-MG-TD_W0QQitemZ190024669457QQihZ009QQcategoryZ10076QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem |
