CAN ANYBODY TELL ME THE VALUE OF MY 50-51 TD. MODEL # 4302. MFG. NOV 1950. GARAGED SINCE 1972!! REASONABLE CONDITION. I AM TRYING TO DETERMINE THE ECONOMIC DISPARITY BETWEEN SELLING AS IS, OR RESTORATION TO "RUNNER" CONDITION. |

Hello Rod, Trying to put a value on a TD in need of restoration/refurbishment comes up regularly on this site. I would say that the car has a value to an enthusiast looking for a project. Spending time and effort and money getting it "running" may not increase the car's value enough to justify the effort. In other words the new owner may well re-do the work to his standards so he sees little value in your expense. I could put you in touch with the local T register for further help advertising the car. Also there are members close to you that could give you a realistic idea of the car's value. In our climate, the bodywork (including the wood) really suffers and that dictates the value of project cars. Just email me directly for those contacts. Tony |

Look on ebay for some sense. Probably $2k for a real wreck, $4k for a car in need of a complete restoration and $6k for one that looks like it needs one(ie paint/interior/finish...). Drivers go for $8-12k. Anything above $12k had better be real nice and the common person will think its wonderful. Expect to put in $10-$20k depending on how perfect you want it to be and how much work you are willing to do. Chris |

About 10 years ago I came across a TD that needed much restoration. They were asking $3000 for it. But what stopped me was the, [not running] Datsun 510 engine that someone!@#$%^had installed. My wife still thinks I should have bought it, and I think she was right. However, it would have taken a long to time to rebuild it to correct parts. Time and lotsa' money. Rod, I bought a 50 TD a year and a half ago. Paid $6K for it. The car was very complete and the metal and paint were in pretty good shape. It had been dormant since 1984. So far i have replaced all the brake lines and rebuilt all of the cylinders. Renewed all of the ignition components and sorted out the wiring so everything works except the wiper motor. Rebuilt the carbs and replaced the fuel pump. It runs well now but I have not driven it enough to really trust it. The above, including some tools is about $1,500 more. It still needs an interior and the rt bottom side rail is shot. Be sure to evaluate ALL of the wood components. That can increase the effort and expense by orders of magnitude. Cheers, JAP |

To get a general idea, get a copy of "Old Car Price Guide" from your local newsstand. It will list values on a scale of 1 to 6 (1 is best, 6 is a basket case) based on cross-country public and private sales, auctions etc. Not a hard and fast measurement, but enough to get you in the ballpark. |
